Tight Racing at Norwegian J/70 Sailing League Act III in Arendal
(Arendal, Norway)- The Norwegian J/70 Sailing League continues its racing for the 2026 series; Arendal Sailing Club hosted the latest event in the picturesque, pine-covered coastline around the bay off Arendal. Both divisions were racing: the Elite Series with eighteen teams and the Division 1 Series with a dozen teams. Imagine that: 30 teams and over 150 sailors enjoying a long weekend together, working hard to sail well for their club. The socializing during onshore festivities was epic; not surprising considering it’s the “land of the midnight sun”! Here’s how it went down for each series.
Elite Series
1st- Soon Seilforening- 29 pts- skipper Jonas Sorlie with crew of Erik Holt-Engebakken, Erik Woo-Noren, Lea Jamelia Jofors
2nd- Stavanger Seilforening- 31 pts- skipper August Hanevik with crew of Markus Hagen, Gabriel Scherer, Viktor Scherer
3rd- Grimstad Seilforening- 31 pts- skipper August Austefjord with crew of Orjan Flo, Daniel Flo Fjaere, Andre Jorgen Ugland
Elite Series Season Standings
As a result of this regatta, Tonsberg Seilforening leads the overall series by a single point with 8 pts total after the events in Moss, Asgardstrand, and Arendal. Second place is Stavanger Seilforening with 9 pts, and third place is KNS (Kongelig Norse Seilforening/Royal Norwegian YC) with 17 pts. KNS’s 10th place in Arendal really hurt their chances for an overall win for the 2026 series.
Division 1 Series
1st- Bergens Seilforening- skipper Aslak Iveland with team of Eira Nilsson, John Oivind Tollevik-Garvik, Hanna Maja Burski
2nd- Oslo Seilforening- skipper Annelise Kullmann with crew of Ina Kullmann, Hedda Roll, Victoria Proitz
3rd Færder Seilforening- skipper Helena Næss with crew of Marie Ronningen, Martin Agersborg-Johansen, Henrik Geelmuyden
Notably, two of the top three leading skippers in the Arendal event and in the season series are women helms- Annelise Kullmand and Helena Næss.
