Italian J/70 Cup Finale Returns to Porto Cervo for 2026 Championship

(Porto Cervo, Sardinia, Italy) – After a summer dominated by major international events, the J/70 Cup 2026 returns to the spotlight with the season’s highlight. From Friday to Sunday, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda will host the final leg of the J/70 Cup 2026 and, concurrently, the J/70 Italian Championship, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in collaboration with the J/70 Italian Class.

This event marks the return of the J/70 one-design class to Porto Cervo nearly ten years after the famous 2017 World Championship, which went down in history for its record entry of over 160 crews. The same race course will also host the highly anticipated 2028 World Championship, with a cap of 198 boats— a target poised to break the class’s participation record (and indeed the record for one-design sailing worldwide!).

Seventeen crews from seven nations are expected in Gallura. Key contenders include the overall series leader Mauro Roversi’s J-CURVE and Andrey Pushkin’s TENZOR TEAM, who dominated the Lerici leg. Also to watch are the defending champion Yann Ingliesi’s CYCLONE, winner in Imperia last year; Manfredo Toninelli’s T-ONE; the Australian team SWISH, led by Steven Proud; and Massimo Rama’s JENIALE CAIM, currently second in the Corinthian standings.

“Having around twenty boats on the starting line for this J/70 Italian Championship exceeds pre-season expectations; the standings are wide open, and it’s this uncertainty that makes every single entry unique and pivotal. The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, with its impeccable organizational machine, will ensure the event is truly spectacular,” commented Federico Siragna, President of the J/70 Italian Class.

The J/70 Italian Class, which uses the Vakaros RaceSense system to manage starts, is supported by Lincoln International, Garmin, VelaMania, North Sails Collection, UtilGraph, Gottifredi Maffioli, and Gin Vento.
